our story

Northern Wellbeing was born from a simple idea: to remind us all how important it is to pause, take care of ourselves and make time for wellbeing - even in the middle of busy life.

Nature, beautiful moments, small everyday experiences or short weekend breaks can make a surprisingly big difference. Scroll down to read more about us and the story behind Northern Wellbeing.

Paula

I’m originally from the Lake District of Finland, but I’ve spent most of my adult life abroad and now live in the Helsinki metropolitan area. For over 20 years, I’ve worked in the international event and travel industry, organizing hundreds of events of all sizes around the world.

Living abroad and in the city has made me appreciate Finland’s nature in a completely new way – its serene lakes, majestic fells, and magical winters or nightless nights in the Summer. Whenever I have friends visiting from abroad, I make sure they experience how incredible Finland is. I always take them to the sauna and the icy plunge pool, or in the summer, to sauna by the lakeside.

"My everyday life is usually filled with a lot of moving parts, and it was during one of these hectic times that the idea for Northern Wellbeing was born."

My everyday life is usually filled with a lot of moving parts, and it was during one of these hectic times that the idea for Northern Wellbeing was born. I attended a yoga retreat after weeks of running on overdrive. That retreat truly stopped me in my tracks – literally. For the first time in weeks, I slept well, my mind slowed down, and I finally felt relaxed and clear-headed.

That's what Northern Wellbeing is all about. Moments and retreats for anyone who feels they've been going a little too fast and want a moment to take care of themselves.

I also hope that international guests will discover Finland’s unique experiences, from the calming beauty of our nature to the magic of our saunas.

This naturally connects to corporate events as well. Years ago, I wrote my thesis on organising wellbeing events for workplaces, and since then, I’ve spent years planning international events for professionals in the event and travel industries. Northern Wellbeing now combines my personal passion with my professional expertise.

Jutta

I’m originally from Savonlinna, and I spent all my childhood summers sailing and adventuring on the islands of Lake Saimaa. Later, my path took me from Lappeenranta to the Helsinki metropolitan area. It’s only while living here that I’ve come to realize what a treasure Saimaa and its many opportunities truly are. And the sauna... my eternal love.

My professional life has been in the business world, in high-pressure and fast-paced sales roles, and for the past 15 years, as an entrepreneur and leader. Amid a busy daily life, I sought moments of stillness through yoga practice and by attending retreats around the world. Experiencing burnout pushed me to find tools to better navigate the demands of a hectic life. I first trained as a yoga teacher, then as a sound bowl practitioner, and finally as a mental coach. I also started teaching yoga weekly alongside my main job.

"Returning to my roots, to the nurturing embrace of Finland’s pristine nature, sauna, and icy waters, was a series of small steps toward a more peaceful daily life."

Returning to my roots, to the nurturing embrace of Finland’s pristine nature, sauna, and icy waters, was a series of small steps toward a more peaceful daily life. In January 2024, I realized I was using these tools merely to enable myself to perform even more in my professional life. I decided things had to change! I “jumped off the hamster wheel” and began building a new career in the wellbeing sector.

Now, I live as I teach. I’m grateful to share my insights and experiences as a wellbeing coach. I truly believe that every one of us has the potential to feel better and make positive changes, one small step at a time.

These lessons from my personal journey are what I want to bring to Northern Wellbeing’s clients, so that each of you can enhance your own wellbeing. An experience to enjoy Finland’s nature and its healing power, the courage to pause and connect with yourself, and the joy of truly savoring life!

How Paula and Jutta Found Each Other

Paula was inspired by the idea of Northern Wellbeing and its potential, so she decided to share it with Jutta, whom she had met through the CrossFit community and training sessions. During their conversation, it became clear that Jutta had already been envisioning a similar concept. We quickly realized that by combining our skills and experiences, we could create something truly meaningful and impactful.

This is how Northern Wellbeing was born — a company with a mission to help people pause, recharge, and reconnect with themselves and the world around them.

"We want to create a world where people feel empowered to prioritize their wellbeing without guilt. We aim to shift perspectives: taking care of yourself is not selfish, but essential for building a balanced and happy life."

The unique nature of Finland – its lakes, forests, fells, and some of the cleanest air in the world – is at the heart of our story and provides the perfect environment for restoration and peace. Northern Wellbeing is inspired by the tranquility and strength of the northern landscape.

At the same time, our vision goes beyond Finland. We aim to bring this idea of northern wellbeing – the art of pausing, connecting with nature, and finding inner balance – to other parts of the world. To us, Northern Wellbeing is not just a place but a holistic approach to fostering wellbeing wherever it’s needed.

Our goal is to offer experiences that provide lasting energy and inspiration – helping people return to their daily lives stronger, happier, and ready to make a positive impact on their families, communities, and themselves.
